This position reports to the Content Production Manager

Purpose of the role:

The role requires an exceptional writer, storyteller, and content producer — someone who can craft sharp, impactful copy while conceptually shaping and producing engaging video, audio, and visual content. 
They will be responsible for communicating the voice, tone, and creative consistency of Takealot while producing content that drives measurable engagement, talkability, and conversion.

Your responsibilities will include:

Social Video Content:
Plan, shoot, and edit high-volume short-form content (Reels, TikToks) alongside audio and visual assets, managing concept through to execution while ensuring alignment with Takealot’s Marketing and Content Strategy.

Copywriting Excellence:
Write and adapt compelling copy for a range of channels, ensuring clarity, emotional resonance, and on-brand storytelling.

Creative Concept Development:
Collaborate with Marketing teams to ideate and execute strong creative concepts that bring on-brand campaigns to life.

Research & Insights:
Stay on the pulse of South African social media trends, audience behaviour, and competitor activity to strengthen creative outputs and keep content relevant and talk-worthy.

Performance & Optimisation:
Measure, analyse, and report on content performance to refine tone, messaging, and creative direction — ensuring future content is data-led and impactful.

Collaboration & Brief Management:
Understand and respond to creative and marketing briefs to effectively plan and brief collaborators.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent qualification in communications, copywriting, English language or related degree
  • A minimum of 2-3 years working in eCommerce/E-learning//content production and/or related digital communications
  • Top-of-the-class content creation, communication and conceptual copywriting skills
  • Razor-sharp and lightning-quick proof-reading accuracy with an obsessive eye for detail
  • Ability to create different types of content consistently depending on its purpose
  • Capability to present creative ideas succinctly (written & verbal)
  • A grounding in Marketing and Communication principles
  • Highly organised and efficient, can work towards and meet tight deadlines
  • Creatively minded with an ability to craft numerous campaigns across multiple departments
  • Results-oriented with a can-do attitude
  • High energy with a thirst for knowledge and willingness to learn
  • A passion for delivering outstanding customer experiences
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience in writing for online, blogging & social media (advantageous)
  • Experience in creating content for Marketplace platforms (advantageous)
  • Bi-lingual in English / Afrikaans (advantageous)
